Vegetation

Balanced Growth

Vegetation is, by definition, at the base of every farm, both crop farming and animal husbandry. Mostly we grow it for crops, but sometimes and in certain areas of less importance, it is left to its own devise.

Vegetation on field boundaries is sometimes pruned back, to stop overgrown branches from damaging tractors and machinery. The ditches are mulched & cleaned to ensure the free flow of water.

After heavy rainfall or after the winter, with melting snow, large volumes of water need to be drained from the fields. Excess vegetation can prohibit this, logging fields with water. Where we can, we leave vegetation as a habitat for many species.
