FARMING WITH NATURE

SUSTAINABILITY

At Koepon we are passionate about farming. Happy animals on healthy farms are the basis of the high quality, tasty and nutritious food that our farmers produce every day. We take care of our people and we strive to have a positive impact on the local communities that we are part of.

WHAT WE MEASURE, WE MANAGE

In our search for a more circular and sustainable operating model, we realized a few years ago that we had to change the way we farm.

We figured that our vision and way of working matches well with the 4 returns, 20 years, 3 zones approach developed by Commonland Foundation. This is a framework that develops business cases at an ecosystem level that unites agro, food, jobs, finance and ecology.

Our Vision

4 Returns:

Return of inspiration: giving people hope and a sense of purpose;
Return of social capital: creating meaningful jobs and business activity, education and security;
Return of natural capital: bringing back biodiversity, soil and water quality;
Financial returns: realizing long-term sustainable profit.

3 Zones:

Natural zone – designed for restoring the ecological foundation and biodiversity;
Combined zone – Designed for restoring the topsoil and delivering low and sustainable economic productivity;
Economic zone – Designed for delivering high and sustainable economic productivity

20 Years:

It takes approximately one generation, or 20 years to restore a landscape
