Milk

Altogether, the farms’ total annual production is around 27 million liters of milk from 2,700 cows and growing. Forage is the main ingredient in our cow rations. To a large extent grass silage (ensiled, and therefore naturally fermented and preserved grass) is the primary forage-fed on the more western farms. Further east, due to the climate conditions, corn-based silage systems suit the farms better.

For a herbivore, quality fibrous feed is vital. We place great emphasis on producing highly palatable, quality silage, and all our forage is homegrown.

At our farm in Germany, the cows graze on pasture. With our large land base, feed quantity is never an issue. Besides grass & lucerne, we grow some starch and protein components in the form of wheat, barley, corn, field beans and soya.
